ABOUT
THRAINN HJALMARSSON
Composer Thrainn Hjalmarsson (b. 1987) studied composition at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and at the Royal Concervatory in Den Haag from 2009-2011. Hjalmarsson is a current member of the composer’s collective S.L.Á.T.U.R and currently curates the contemporary music concert series, Hljóðön (e. Phonemes) at Hafnarborg and Myrkir músíkdagar (e. Dark Music Days) in Reykjavík.
Hjalmarsson’s music has been performed by performers, orchestras and ensembles worldwide on various occasion. In recent years Hjalmarsson has focused on close collaborations with performers. Recent collaborations include performers such as
Marco Fusi, Jennifer Torrence, Ingólfur Vilhjálmsson, Vertixe Sonora and
Barokkbandið Brák.
Other projects include development of the musical instrument Thranophone in close collaboration with the visual artist
Halldór Úlfarsson and composer
Ingi Garðar Erlendsson and other varied multidisciplinary collaborations with for example visual artist
Sigurður Guðjónsson and designer duo
Studio Brynjar & Veronika.
